Pharmaceutical glassware workshop created

Glass Technology Services Ltd is hosting a series of free-to-attend workshops for manufacturers and users of pharmaceutical glassware. The workshops cover a range of factors to consider when specifying or verifying primary glass packaging for pharmaceutical applications, including an understanding of glass manufacture and processing, glass properties, performance and quality control, as well as both current and emerging regulatory requirements.

Glaston Corp to acquire Bystronic glass

Glaston Corp has signed an agreement to acquire the Bystronic glass Group. The globally operating machinery, systems and services provider for the processing of flat glass is currently owned by Swiss industrial holding company Conzzeta AG. Bystronic glass has a comprehensive range of products that complement Glaston’s, for the architectural, automotive and display markets.

Nippon Sheet Glass Environment Amenity shares sold

NSG Group has decided to sell its entire shareholdings in Nippon Sheet Glass Environment Amenity Co Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary, to Hibino Corp. Utilising its established technologies related to soundproofing, vibration reduction and acoustic engineering and offering integrated engineering and management services including inspection, measurement, design and construction, NEA has been successfully providing customers with excellent sound environment. While NEA has been contributing in a stable way to NSG, it was concluded that the company’s further development can be achieved better through a synergy with a third party.

Şişecam joins global sustainability league

Şişecam Group’s flat glass, glassware, glass packaging and chemicals business categories are among the top 100 ‘Best Emerging Markets Performers’, according to the Vigeo Eiris Sustainability Index 2018 assessment, in which 855 companies in 35 sectors and 31 countries participated. 

The glassmaker’s mainstream sustainability principles throughout its operations aim to create a people and environment-centred sustainable value and steps forward with its responsible approach to stakeholders, while continuing to preserve its foundational ethical values transparency, accountability and open management approach. 

Vetropack batch plant modifications in Austria

ZIPPE Industrieanlagen GmbH recently modified and extended the batch plant at Vetropack’s Kremsmünster glass container plant in Austria. This included the installation of three container scales and seven screw conveyors. In the cullet return area, three scraping conveyors as well as five vibratory trays and three conveying belts were supplied. Besides the mechanical supply, the order also involved control system upgrades.

Saint-Gobain divests distribution businesses in Norway and Sweden

Saint-Gobain has sold its regional glass business Glassolutions Norway and Sweden to Mimir Invest AB, a Swedish investment firm.

The divested businesses will continue to use the Glassolutions brand under a franchise agreement. Glassolutions Norway and Sweden manufactures and distributes glass products. This business has delivered an annual turnover of around €35 million and employs 170 people. Saint-Gobain will remain present in the region as a supplier of float glass, insulated glass units and high performance glass

Corning sites achieve EPA energy goal

Ten of Corning’s global manufacturing facilities have exceeded energy efficiency goals set by the US Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry. To meet the challenge, industrial sites must increase energy efficiency by at least 10% in five years or less.

The Corning sites that have all managed to raise their energy efficiency by percentages ranging from 10.4 to 52.4 in less than five years are Corning Environmental Technologies (Erwin, New York), Corning Life Sciences (Salt Lake City, Utah; Durham, North Carolina; Warsaw, Poland) and Corning Optical Communications (Hickory, North Carolina; Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Reynosa, Mexico; Shanghai, China; Strykow, Poland; and Vordingborg, Denmark).
