Supply agreement for pharma packaging solution

Corning and Pfizer have executed a long-term purchase and supply agreement for Corning Valor glass. The multi-year agreement provides for the supply of Valor Glass vials to a portion of currently marketed Pfizer drug products, pending regulatory approval.

Since first launching its collaboration with Corning, Pfizer has continued to evaluate Valor Glass’ performance across several aseptic sites, utilising multiple vial sizes, with a broad range of drug products from Pfizer’s sterile injectables portfolio.

During this time, Valor Glass was accepted into and provisionally evaluated under the Food and Drug Administration’s Emerging Technology programme.

Zero waste to landfill

Zero waste to landfill

In 2018, the Ardagh Glass Barnsley facility in the UK embarked on an initiative to prevent landfill disposal for its waste by identifying recycling and reuse opportunities and alternative waste outlets.

The Barnsley team identified six key waste streams and worked with local waste collection companies to introduce appropriate bins to recycle waste.

All waste, from batch to oily sand, is now collected and recycled or reused as refuse-derived fuel. The team also encouraged suppliers to take back packaging and reuse it.

The initiative recycled 1741 tonnes of waste in 2018 - 200 tonnes more than in 2017, preventing 100% of waste, compared to 85% in 2017.

Scottish DRS scheme to go ahead

Scottish DRS scheme to go ahead

Following the Scottish Parliament’s recent approval of Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) regulations, British Glass has repeated its call for an alternative Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) model that would increase glass recycling rates, be more cost-effective and offer double the CO2 savings.

We were not alone in asking the Scottish Government to delay the DRS regulations until the impact of Covid-19 is known” commented Dave Dalton (illustrated), British Glass CEO. “Many businesses, including those part of our industry and supply chain are not in the position to face the additional burden the scheme will place on them.

Sanitary protection screens for shops and open spaces

Sanitary protection screens for shops and open spaces

In response to social distancing needs as many of the world’s economies begin to reopen, AGC Glass Europe has developed a series of standard safety glass protection screens for installation in shops and open spaces.

When compared with existing plastic solutions, the company emphasises, safety glass is more transparent and solid, more scratch-resistant and durable. It does not fade over time or under the effects of alcohol-based detergents.

These solutions help to maintain social distancing between members of the work community (employees, customers etc). They will therefore contribute to reducing the risk of propagation of viruses such as Covid-19.
