AGC and Saint-Gobain Partner for the Decarbonization of Flat Glass Manufacturing

AGC and Saint-Gobain are collaborating on the design of a pilot flat glass line that is expected to significantly reduce its direct CO2 emissions. As part of this R&D project, AGC’s patterned glass production line in Barevka, Czech Republic, will be entirely refurbished into one that is set to be 50% electrified and 50% fired by a combination of oxygen and gas. It will be the most sustainable flat glass line design contributing to both companies’ paths towards carbon neutrality and to the necessary acceleration of flat glass decarbonization.

Gerresheimer and Medicos Present a Sustainable Refill System for Cosmetics

Gerresheimer and Medicos Beauty are presenting the matching clickable elements for an environmental-friendly refill packaging system. The refill system consists of the Gx-CyClic glass jar, the Re-CliCK click-in inner and a suitable cap.

With sustainability at the core of the design, in addition to the reuse aspect, the refill system is made of sustainable and recycled materials to save resources,” explains Nicola Balena, Global Vice President Cosmetics at Gerresheimer Moulded Glass. The glass jar is made of 40% post-consumer recycled glass, while the inner is made of bio-based PP and the cap of R-PET, PET or PP. All materials are recyclable after use.

Arts University Plymouth Invests in Electric Furnace

A new electric furnace has been installed in Arts University Plymouth’s hot glass studios, replacing the previous gas furnace, used frequently by craft, art and research students in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The first of its kind in an educational institution in the UK, it will reduce the annual energy consumption of the renowned hot glass studios by up to 80% in comparison to previous hot-glass blowing methods. It is forecasted to reduce the carbon footprint from hot glass by over 39 tonnes a year.

Saint-Gobain Strengthens Insulation Offering in Argentina

Saint-Gobain has completed the acquisition of Termica San Luis, a leader in stone wool insulation in Argentina. The family-owned business has over 70 years of experience in insulation and is the leading producer of stone wool in the country. Termica San Luis employs 40 people at one plant in the San Luis province, they will join the 800 Saint-Gobain employees in Argentina.

The acquisition allows Saint-Gobain to strengthen its presence in the insulation market, enhancing its range of solutions for customers thanks to the combination of its position in glass wool insulation with that of Termica San Luis in stone wool.

Stoelzle Masnières Parfumerie Dries Van Noten Bottle Wins 2023 PCD Innovation Awards

The refillable Dries Van Noten Eau de Parfum bottle has been recognized in the Women’s fragrances category at the PCD innovation awards. Both PUIG, the client, and Stoelzle, the glass supplier, received the award and all suppliers involved in the project were congratulated.

The eye-catching glass bottle is manufactured at Stoelzle Masnières Parfumerie and comprised of ten shells on the bottom of the bottle, four materials (porcelain, plastic, wood, metal) and two types of lacquering (eight classic and two Quali Glass Coat 2.0, an exclusive STO ecological powder coating).
