Owens Corning and Pultron Composites join to make fibreglass rebar

Owens Corning and Pultron Composites join to make fibreglass rebar

Owens Corning and Pultron Composites have created a joint venture to manufacture fibreglass rebar.

The companies have committed to provide more sustainable product solutions and higher performance concrete reinforcement products.

New Zealand firm Pultron Composites has developed a leading fibreglass rebar production process. Owens Corning’s products carry ACI, ASTM, ICC-ES and CSA Grade III code compliance and are a suitable replacement to steel rebar.

Fibreglass rebar is up to seven times lighter than steel and is a proven corrosion resistant reinforcement, extending the life of concrete which is particularly important when construction materials are exposed to the elements, such as in coastal areas.

Funding helps fuel hydrogen project in push for net zero

Funding helps fuel hydrogen project in push for net zero

The British Ceramic Confederation (BCC) has received £300,000 of Government funding for a project to study the feasibility of using hydrogen as a fuel for the ceramics sector as the industry pushes to work towards net zero targets.

Combustion trials with Glass Futures will contribute to a benchmark study of a range of hydrogen fuel scenarios (up to 100%) against natural gas, assessing the impact on ceramics bodies being fired under such conditions.

The BCC will work on the project with 12 member companies from the BCC’s Hydrogen Project Working Group, representing key areas of the ceramics sector (bricks, roof tiles, floor/wall tiles, sanitaryware, refractories, drainage pipes and tableware).

C-Capture to demonstrate low-cost carbon capture solutions

A multi-industry, multi-million-pound project will see C-Capture’s unique, next-generation carbon capture technology deployed on sites across the country.

‘XLR8 CCS – accelerating the deployment of a low-cost carbon capture solution for hard-to-abate industries’ will deliver feasibility studies and deploy carbon capture solvent compatibility units (CCSCUs) across the cement and energy from waste and the glass industry.

The compatibility of C-Capture’s solvent-based technology will be trialled and assessed with real-world flue gas at sites owned by project partners Hanson Cement, part of the Heidelberg Group, Bioenergy Infrastructure Group (BIG), Glass Futures and one of their member sites Pilkington UK, in conjunction with consulting and engineering company, Wood.

ENGIE Romania and Saint-Gobain Romania develop PV park

ENGIE Romania and Saint-Gobain Romania develop PV park

ENGIE Romania will contribute to the decarbonization efforts of Saint-Gobain Romania, by developing a photovoltaic park and by providing green energy. In this way, Saint-Gobain reduces CO2 emissions in its manufacturing processes.

The ground-mounted photovoltaic panels will provide approximately 20% of the electricity needs of the glass factory in Călărași, avoiding over 2,400 tons of CO2 per year.

The amount of green energy produced is estimated at over 14 GWh/year.
