New furnace at Stoelzle Oberglas reduces energy consumption by 13%

As a perfect start in 2022 to the International Year of Glass, Stoelzle Oberglas has successfully completed the rebuild and expansion of its flint furnace, a €22 million investment that aims to make production on the site more efficient and also more sustainable in terms of energy efficiency and CO2 emissions.

The new furnace will reach a daily capacity of around 270 tons of melted glass.

State-of-the-art melting technology will reduce the process melting energy by an estimated 13% per ton of glass. Improved electric-boosting allows the use of more green electricity in a flexible way in order to reduce the consumption of natural gas.

International Cookware becomes La Maison Française du Verre

Historical owner of the Pyrex brand, International Cookware took over the Duralex entity at the end of January 2021.

These two iconic brands are now united in a single house where they share the same values and ambitions.

To echo this new shared adventure and to complete this approach of French excellence, International Cookware is now changing its name to become La Maison Française du Verre.

The combination of Pyrex and Duralex involves 750 employees, 100 million pieces produced each year, sold in 133 countries and 184 years of glassmaking know-how.

Verallia has announced the appointment of Julie Bastien as Director, Corporate Communications.

As part of her duties, Ms Bastien will be in charge of external, internal and digital communications as well as media relations for the Group.

In liaison with the international subsidiaries, she will also manage communication around the Purpose, "Re-imagine glass for a sustainable future", the cornerstone of the Group's strategy.

"We are delighted to welcome Julie to Verallia. She will bring her extensive experience in communications and public affairs. Her arrival reflects our ambitions to develop our reputation and know-how worldwide", said Mathilde Joannard, VP Human Resources in charge of Communications and CSR.

The Glass Packaging Institute announces the 2022 Clear Choice Awards

The Glass Packaging Institute (GPI) has announced the launch of the 2022 Clear Choice Awards, the only awards programme which recognises North America’s top brands and manufacturers creating exceptional designs that shape dynamic consumer experiences.

The 2022 Clear Choice Awards are open to all North American glass container manufacturers and their customers.

Products introduced in the 2021 calendar year may be entered for an award in one of eight categories: Food; Non-Alcoholic Beverages; Wine; Spirits; Beer, Cider & Flavoured Alcoholic Beverages; Cosmetics, Fragrances & Pharmaceutical; Sustainability and Innovation.

The submission guidelines are on the GPI website and the deadline for entries is May 31, 2022.

3D Glass Solutions raises additional $4million

3D Glass Solutions Inc has raised an additional $4 million in an extended funding round. New investor Menlo Microsystems Inc. as well as follow-on investments from both Corning Incorporated and Sun Mountain Capital, bringing the total raised to $24 million.

The funding round comes on the heels of 3DGS securing a licensing agreement with Corning for process and know-how related to forming through glass vias (TGV) in HPFS fused silica, as well as a corresponding long term supply agreement for glass wafers.

The addition of this technology complements 3DGS’ existing portfolio and provides entry into adjacent market areas.

Gerresheimer accelerates growth and raises mid term guidance

Gerresheimer is further accelerating its profitable growth following the strategic program of realigning the business with megatrends such as healthcare, sustainability and biotech.

The company has beaten its revenue guidance in 2021. Last year the company generated €1,497 million in core business revenues, achieving a strong organic growth of 7.6%. Core business adjusted EBITDA increased to EUR 324m on a currency-adjusted basis meeting the forecast range.

AGC intends to close German and Belgian plants

AGC intends to close German and Belgian plants

Management of AGC Glass Germany GmbH have informed the local works council of its intention to stop production activities in Wegberg Plant.

The restructuring plan would entail the dismissal of 84 people within the next 2 years (2022–23), including permanent and temporary contracts, white and blue collar employees dedicated to these production activities. Other staff employed by AGC Glass Germany would not be impacted.

AGC Automotive Belgium informed its works council of its intention to close the Fleurus site in Belgium. The plant currently employs 187 workers.
