SORG to supply high-boosted 480 tpd furnace to Brazil’s Vidroporto

Vidroporto the 100% Brazilian owned container glass producer for the alcoholic beverages and food market chose SORG as its technological partner for a new end-fired regenerative furnace.

Looking to reduce the carbon footprint, this new 480tpd high-boosted furnace will be the first in South America to use a high proportion of electrical heating (boosting) and will incorporate all modern and proven SORG innovations to produce high quality glass whilst achieving high thermal efficiency, lower CO2 emissions and a long furnace campaign.

Şişecam project in touch with nature Folkart Ardıç Residence

Şişecam’s flat glass products were preferred in the Folkart Ardıç Residence project in Çeşme, İzmir.

The company’s Temperable Solar Control Low-E Glass Neutral 62/44 product was used in the project that the residence block’s form is shaped by the idea of protecting the juniper trees on the site.

Folkart Ardıç Residence is designed by Dilekci Mimarlik/DDA and brought to life with innovative products from Şişecam Flat Glass that pioneers many firsts in the field of flat glass.

The high light transmittance, heat insulation and solar control requested in the project are provided by a single coating that is Şişecam Temperable Solar Control Low-E Glass Neutral 62/44.

Gerresheimer expands injection vial production in Wertheim

Gerresheimer is expanding its capacity for glass vials at the Wertheim site and at two further sites in China and the USA. The company is investing in production in Wertheim to reach 150 million vials per year and plans to create 70 new jobs for this purpose.

The German Federal Ministry of Economy and Climate Action supports the investment within the framework of federal funding of production equipment of borosilicate tubular glass and glass vials for use in vaccine production.

Until now, Gerresheimer has primarily served the European demand for vials from its plants in Boleslawiec (Poland) and Chalon (France).

O-I Glass recognized for sustainable advancements

O-I Glass has received two significant acknowledgments for its continued sustainability transformation. EcoVadis upgraded O-I’s rating to Silver (2021: Bronze), and Sustainalytics awarded O-I with an ESG Regional Top-Rated performer classification.

Beginning in 2020, O-I refreshed its business strategy, including the elevation of sustainability to a global function through the appointment of its first Chief Sustainability Officer and the development of a sustainability network across the company’s global footprint. Coming out of this transformation, O-I became the first glass packaging company to receive approval from the Science-Based Targets initiative for its emissions reduction goal.

Remembering Mr Manohar Lal

Mr Manohar Lal, former secretary of the All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation, recently passed away.

After 24 years of service to the AIGMF, Mr Lal’s retirement was commemorated with a function in January 2014 when he acknowledged members’ sentiments and thanked everyone for the understanding and consideration shown to him.

He also stated that his successful tenure was because of close cooperation with AIGMF office bearers and members.

Many AIGMF dignitaries have paid tribute to Mr Lal, as well as members of the Glass Worldwide team who worked with him since the inaugural Glass India exhibition in 1995.

Revolutionary Research Sets Out to Find Low Carbon Fuel Alternatives

Research trials into low carbon alternative fuels for glass furnaces are currently ongoing as part of Glass Futures’ Government funded Industrial Fuel Switching Phase 3 programme.

The not-for-profit research and technology organisation was awarded a £7.1m contract in 2020 by the UK Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy’s (BEIS) Energy Innovation Programme to research and deliver new energy sources to the glass industry.

The project encompasses a wide range of industrial and academic partners and the final report for this work is due to be published by BEIS in summer 2022.

Ardagh Group awarded Energy Star building certification

Ardagh Group awarded Energy Star building certification

Ardagh Group was awarded an Energy Star building certification for superior energy performance from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its West Coast distribution centre in Fairfield, California.

Energy Star certified buildings and plants are verified to perform in the top 25% of US buildings, based on weather-normalised source energy use that takes into account occupancy, hours of operation, and other key metrics.

Energy Star is the only energy efficiency certification in the United States that is based on actual, verified energy performance.
