Maison Chanel and Groupe Pochet combine to use recycled glass in N°5

Maison Chanel and Groupe Pochet combine to use recycled glass in N°5

Avant-garde and timeless, Chanel N°5 is perpetually and imperceptibly reinventing itself, always a step ahead of its time.

On the occasion of its 100th year, N°5 was the first perfume bottle to include recycled glass which retains the unparalleled purity, shine and transparency, close to the characteristics of crystal.

The teams at Chanel and Pochet du Courval joined their expertise to reconsider glassmaking through a common approach that favours sustainable development.

The result of this collaboration encourages the circular economy, reduces the use of natural resources and the carbon footprint while preserving the perfume’s aesthetics.

Beatson Clark have worked closely with Hip Pop to develop its new drinks bottle which is based on an Alpha Sirop pharmaceutical bottle normally used for medicines.

Unlike the original design, the bottle is tested to 3.0bar which makes it suitable for carbonated or fermented drinks.

The retro drinks bottle forms part of Beatson’s extensive standard range and can also be used for beers as it is available with both an MCA and a standard crown neck finish.

The amber drinks bottles contain over 60% recycled glass, making it a highly sustainable packaging option.

Partners investing in the circular economy

Partners investing in the circular economy

Together with joint venture partners Zignago and Verallia, Ardagh Glass have continually invested to increase the processing capacity at the glass recycling facility, Vetreco S.r.l. in Supino, Southern Italy.

In addition to the increased capacity, the quality of the cullet supplied has been improved. The Vetreco facility can process 370,000tonne of cullet per annum making it one of the largest glass recycling facilities in the world.

When it first opened in 2013, the collection rate of waste glass in Southern Italy was 16kg per capita compared to 40kg per capita in the North.

As a result of the increased glass recycling capability, the rate is now 32kg per capita.

Verallia: two new 100% electric furnaces at the Châteaubernard site

Verallia France has set out an ambitious project to build two 100% electric furnaces making the Cognac plant a showcase of innovation.

The two new furnaces aim to replace the fossil fuel fired furnace No. 2 nearing the end of it’s campaign life.

The total production capacity will replace that of the old furnace.

The Verallia site in Châteaubernard would become the first site in Europe and within the Group to produce glass packaging for the food and beverage market with 100% electric furnaces.

This would implement environmental commitments with a nearly 50% reduced carbon footprint of the containers produced.

O-I glass plant in Czech Republic completes furnace reconstruction

O-I has rebuilt one of the two glass furnaces of its Nové Sedlo plant.

The new furnace is larger and thus ensures greater productivity,” said Antonín Petras, Nové Sedlo plant manager.

With the investment, the O-I plant takes a step further in sustainability. Over 10% energy savings are expected, as well as 10% emissions reduction.
