SORG Technology: Energy Savings and Trouble-Free Operation for Wiegand-Glas

SORG Technology: Energy Savings and Trouble-Free Operation for Wiegand-Glas

In 2011 SORG installed the first a batch preheater at Wiegand-Glas in Steinbach, on their also newly built furnace No. 1. The preheater, with a capacity of 250tpd, was set up next to the melting tank due to the layout inside the building.

All three elements of the Batch3 concept were implemented for the first time, which included SORG’S preheater, the dust-tight EME-NEND batch charger and the IRD doghouse.

The batch charger sought to eliminate dust around the furnace, while the doghouse for glazing the batch aimed to reduce dust inside the furnace.

SORG delivered 10 years of trouble-free operation with only routine maintenance work required, before the preheater was shut down and inspected in March 2021 prior to the planned reconstruction of furnace No. 1.

Rebecca Edwards, a young British designer at Hunter Luxury, is the winner of the O-I : Expressions Design Awards 2021.

She was awarded the top honour for her entry inspired by Old Norse legends.

The competition offered designers a distinct challenge: creating a high-end glass packaging design addressing a familiar issue spirits brands face: conveying enhanced sustainability and premium brand cues simultaneously.

Edwards created a drinks brand she named Ormr, Old Norse for snake, inspired by the story of the giant serpent Jörmungandr, which grows so large that it encircles the world.

Deceuninck and AGC Glass Europe enter into a strategic partnership

Deceuninck, a specialist in the development and production of PVC and aluminium window and door profiles, and AGC Glass Europe have entered into a strategic partnership.

The combination of their know-how and expertise in their respective fields has resulted in new innovative solutions that enable the integration of Fineo vacuum glass into the PVC and aluminium profiles of the Elegant and Decalu series, respectively.

This offers architects, building contractors and owners with access to solutions that meet the ever stricter requirements in the field of thermal and acoustic performance and light transmission.

Although the two elements have been inextricably connected for centuries, window frames and glazing were two very distinct things until recently.
