Strategies in place to maintain business continuity

Sisecam Group has initiated a series of measures in recent weeks to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on its employees, customers, suppliers and business partners around the world. The group has production activities in 14 different countries across four continents, 22,000 employees and sales to over 150 countries.

Production has continued as normal at Sisecam’s flat glass facilities, other than one production line in Turkey, which was stopped at the beginning of April, in line with a planned cold repair schedule. It has also been necessary to adapt to changing demands and working conditions, while adjusting capacities in parallel with production stoppages in the automotive industry. Product development and inventory planning efforts are being undertaken to adapt to the circumstances that may emerge when the industry picks up again. Additionally, plans have been formulated to address opportunities in the replacement glass market.

In Sisecam Group’s household glassware business line, which provides input to retail and tourism industries, capacity utilisation plans have been determined in the light of changing demand. Accordingly, some production lines have been stopped.

A key supplier to the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries, the glass packaging business line has not faced significant problems in terms of production or sales conditions. However, due to business closures across the globe, consumption in the HORECA (hotel, restaurant, cafes) channel has contracted.

Demand conditions in all business lines are being monitored closely, while taking actions to create a supply chain capable of responding to the changing conditions caused by the pandemic. Logistical hurdles witnessed due to the pandemic mostly in European operations are handled in a manner to prevent customers from being affected by delays in product shipments. Furthermore, various steps have been taken to keep the additional costs, which may arise during this period, at minimum levels.

In addition, a supplier finance programme has been deployed in line with Sisecam’s strategic priorities. The group is in close collaboration with over 10,000 suppliers and contractors to support them in establishing business models that will maintain their business continuity.
