Winner of the Balkrishna Gupta Award following export quantities increasing ten times over, SCHOTT Glass India Pvt. Ltd is a 100% subsidiary of the German technology group SCHOTT AG, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of special glass tubing with long-standing experience since 1911. In 2018, SCHOTT foresaw a global increase in pharma tubing demand and market growth that could offer an opportunity to increase capacity and market share. India is a vital region for SCHOTT’s growth in the international market and a phased investment, including the installation of four new tanks, has tripled production capacity and seen the Jambusar plant become a hub that also serves Thailand, Bangladesh, Turkey, Taiwan, Korea, China, Singapore and Indonesia with borosilicate glass tubing, a high-quality material that is converted to pharmaceutical containers.

The AIGMF awards jury comprised of Dr. K. Annapurna, Chief Scientist, Glass Division, CSIR-Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute (CSIR-CGCRI); Mr. Dave Fordham, Publisher, Glass Worldwide, London (UK); Mr. Sanjay Somany, Former President AIGMF; Mr. P K Kheruka, Former President AIGMF and Chairman Borosil Ltd. and Mr. Vinit Kapur, Secretary AIGMF.

Pulkit Gaur for winning the prestigious C K Somany award for Innovation and Technology for his innovation of designing and developing an indigenous non-contact thickness measurement device to monitor the thickness of patterned glass online which has improved the quality of glass production. Further, I congratulate M/s Schott Glass India Pvt. Ltd., to receive the esteemed Balakrishna Gupta Award for its attaining remarkable exports,” said Dr. K. Annapurna.

Honouring youth
Under the banner of the International Youth Day, the AIGMF AGM also provided an excellent platform to honour youth in India who participated in the federation’s annual contest on ‘Green Energy via Solar Glass’. The contest was open to youth between seven to 24 years old from schools and colleges across India who submitted hundreds of entries of drawings, photos, poems, essays and technical articles. As a token of appreciation, the top 100 entries will receive an 80th anniversary AIGMF glass memento specially designed by M/s La Opala RG Ltd.
Parallel to these events, AIGMF members at the AGM benefitted from a special session on risk management with presentations from Mr. Mahesh Tanwar, IRDA, AMFI, MDRT Qualifier Life Insurance Corporation of India and Ms. Ruchi Shukla, Head Energy, Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited.
