Alicia Durán wins the 2022 Otto Schott Research Award

The Board of Trustees of the Ernst Abbe Fund has awarded Professor Alicia Durán, Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) researcher, with the 2022 Otto Schott Research Award.

The award will be presented at the 26th International Glass Congress in Berlin on 3–8 July 2022.

The Otto Schott Research Award for outstanding scientific achievements was first presented in 1991.

Since then, this award has been presented every two years to recognise excellent researchers for their scientific and technological achievements in basic and applied research in the fields of glass, glass-ceramic and related advanced materials.

This research award is governed by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft and presented on an international basis.

For this reason, the list of distinguished award winners includes the names of researchers from the USA, Russia, Japan, China and other European countries, as well as physicists and chemists from Germany.

Alicia Durán is the first Spanish researcher reaching this prestigious award.

Prof. Duran is a former President of the International Commission on Glass and Chair of the United Nations International Year of Glass 2022. She is the 49th recipient of the Phoenix Award named “Glass Person of the Year 2019“.
