Fifth AIGMF Awards and first Poem/Essay Writing Contest

The All India Glass Manufacturers' Federation (AIGMF) is accepting entries for the fifth AIGMF Awards for outstanding achievement to the Indian glass industry, supported by Glass Worldwide.

The C K Somany Award for Innovation and Technology will recognise an individual who has made significant contributions to the glass industry in the field or fields of manufacturing, product development, environmental factors, business performance/growth, research and development and/or science and technology.

Separately, the Balkrishna Gupta Award for Exports will be given to an individual/company who has contributed to the identification or growth of glass exports.

The jury for the awards will comprise of: Dr. K. Annapurna, Chief Scientist, Glass Division, CSIR-Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute (CSIR-CGCRI); Dave Fordham, Publisher, Glass Worldwide; Sanjay Somany, Former President AIGMF and CMD HNG Industries Ltd; Mr P. K. Kheruka, Former President AIGMF and Chairman of Borosil Ltd and Vinit Kapur, Secretary AIGMF.

Applications are invited at info@aigmf.com from within India from all those connected with the glass industry who may submit a brief write-up/CV in support of their candidature by 25 July 2022.

Previous winners of the C K Somany award include Sushil Jhunjhunwala, La Opala (2018), Mr B. L. Kheruka, Borosil (2019), Dr. Mukul Chandra Paul, CSIR-CGCRI (2020) and Mr Udit Kapoor, Kapoor Glass India Pvt. Ltd. Winners of the Balkrishna Gupta Award include PGP Glass (2018), Firozabad Glass Shell Industries (2019), La Opala (2020) and Borosil Renewables Ltd (2021).

It is anticipated that the 2022 awards will be presented at the AIGMF’s annual general meeting in August or September.

Glass Worldwide, Kanch and Glass News have the exclusive rights of announcing the winners; including winning interviews in print and on websites (i.e. www.glassworldwide.co.uk / www.aigmf.com) that could be followed by other magazines and websites.

AIGMF will also be sharing a stall with Glass Worldwide at glasstec 2022 in Düsseldorf, Germany in September.

Separately, the AIGMF has launched the first Poem/Essay Writing Contest, themed ‘Green as Glass’. and supported by ICG, IYOG and CSIR-CGCRI. Entrants aged between 7-24 years from anywhere in the world are invited to submit entries by 25 July that demonstrate the salient features of glass. Winners will be announced on International Youth Day on 12 August.
