Flat glass business activity adapted to safety requirements

Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, AGC Glass Europe has drastically reduced its manufacturing and distribution activities, which are spread throughout Europe.

Based in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, the company produces, processes and markets flat glass for the construction industry (external glazing and interior decoration), car manufacture and solar power applications. It has over 100 sites throughout Europe, from Spain to Russia and employs approximately 16,500 people.

The company emphasises that its main priority is to protect employees and other stakeholders and prevent the further spread of the virus, while continuing to provide service to customers wherever necessary and possible.

Depending on the type of activity and the location in Europe, a large number of staff members  are either on economic unemployment or permitted to work from home.

To maintain services to customers, AGC Glass Europe is preparing a phased restart of activities. A central team has been set up to manage this process and is now preparing the various steps to ensure a safe start-up.

For example, the team is drawing up guidelines for refurbishing workplaces and all other areas, together with protection measures for employees and workers and the health precautions to be followed inside company premises when meeting people from outside.

According to a company statement, the actual resumption or scaling-up of activities will depend on the type of activity, demand for products and plant location. The restart will be gradual and partial and will be aligned with the directives issued by the respective authorities on health and safety conditions for all stakeholders.
