Hrastnik1860 Pioneers Decarbonization in Glass

The future is strongly relying on the sustainable actions. Rising global temperatures and diminishing natural resources threaten all populations, including those yet to be born.

The major impact of glass production is caused by atmospheric emissions from melting activities.

The goal has been set to find solutions and Hrastnik1860 are paving the way for a bright and sustainable industry.

The most sustainable glass bottle in the world is not only a breakthrough for Hrastnik1860, but above all represents proof that it is possible to make the much-needed transition.

The main game changer is hydrogen. The melted glass for the first batch production of world’s first carbon free bottles involved renewable energy from solar cells, green hydrogen gas and external cullet collected from waste recycled glass.

The only emission produced in the glass making process was water vapour instead of carbon dioxide.

Mr Peter Čas, CEO of Hrastnik1860, introduced the bottle exclusively at EXPO 2020 Dubai: “At Hrastnik1860, we are prepared for a green future by systematically reducing our impact on the environment. With the implementation of all planned projects, we plan to reduce the carbon footprint by 40% by 2025, and by 2050 we want to become completely carbon neutral.”
