MAGNAVI, NSG’s high-performance reinforcement fibre

NSG Group has announced its newly developed MAGNAVI, a high-modulus and high-strength glass fibre, that can be used as reinforcement for composites.

It has the highest level of mechanical properties available amongst all glass fibres, while keeping the radio-permeability and heat resistance that are inherent to glass.

MAGNAVI aims to provide a higher-grade solution in areas where conventional glass fibres or carbon fibres lack suitability.

The company has already started pre-production and will establish mass production capability at the Tsu Plant, Mie Prefecture, Japan in the second half of 2022.

Advanced glass fibre sometimes contains rare-earth elements (REEs) to improve elastic modulus but these additions are often considered to have a negative environmental impact with associated processing and procurement risks.

MAGNAVI does not contain REEs in order to reduce these risks and contributes to the realization of a decarbonized society through an environmentally friendly production process by reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

The NSG fibre has superior mechanical properties when compared to conventional glass fibres, its impact strength is also well beyond that of similar carbon fibre composites, while it also retains the inherent properties of glass such as neutral colour tones, electrical insulation and cost advantage.

MAGNAVI is a trademark of NSG Group.
