O-I Launches 2023 Student Design Competition With Pentawards

The 2023 O-I:EXPRESSIONS STUDENT DESIGN AWARD challenges students to create a beautiful graphical design for a low- or non-alcoholic spirits brand, a sector which is growing 7% year on year. Entrants will use O-I’s innovative direct to glass printing technology, to create a design that stands out in a crowded market.

The competition is open to students, recent graduates and interns at design agencies around the world. The judges will be: Steve Honour, Design Leader, Innovation and Futures at Diageo; Melianthe Leeman, Global Marketing Director, Wines and Spirits, O-I; and Adam Ryan, Head of Pentawards.

To be involved in supporting talent in this way is a pleasure. It’s nice to be able give back and share my knowledge with students that could soon shape the future. I hope they approach the brief by placing sustainability at the core while still delivering beauty to delight the consumer. And, of course, push boundaries and challenge conventions as that is at the core of design as a whole,” said Mr Honour.

Full criteria and instructions on how to enter can be found on the Pentawards website. The deadline for entries is 24 March 2023.

Five shortlisted designs will be made by the O-I:EXPRESSIONS team and displayed at Packaging Innovations London. The winner will be announced at the Pentawards Gala Ceremony on 23 September and will win a trophy, a mentorship opportunity at Diageo, a sample of their bottle and a feature in the next Pentawards Design Book.
