Remembering Mr B L Kheruka

A pioneer of the Indian glass industry, Mr B L Kheruka passed away on 12 December 2021.

Mr Kheruka was born in 1930 and was already the founder of Window Glass Ltd when he took the decision to acquire Borosil from Corning in 1988, overseeing the company’s transformation into a leading diversified specialist glassmaker and processor with interests spanning a growing number of sectors. In recent years, Mr B L Kheruka served as Borosil’s Executive Chairman with his son Pradeep as Vice Chairman and grandson Shreevar as Managing Director.

In recognition of his six decades’ long career in the glass industry and his valuable contribution in the areas of technology, manufacturing, innovation, services and education, Mr B L Kheruka was awarded the prestigious C K Somany Award for Innovation and Technology in 2019 by the All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation.

In an interview with Glass Worldwide in 2020, Shreevar Kheruka commented on his grandfather receiving this accolade: “Always thinking beyond himself, he has continually been trying to improve the prospects of not just Borosil but the glass industry in general. He was delighted to receive this award because it means so much to receive recognition from his peers.”

Dave Fordham, Glass Worldwide publisher, paid tribute: “The contribution of Mr B L Kheruka to the glass industry in India and beyond over many decades cannot be overstated. We are very saddened to learn of his passing and send sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.”
