Saint-Gobain commits to net-zero carbon emissions

As part of this week’s Climate Action Summit in New York, Saint-Gobain has signed the pledge of the Global Compact ‘Business ambition for 1.5oC’. The company has committed to reach net-zero emissions by no later than 2050 in line with 1.5oC scenarios, responding to what the latest climate science indicates is needed to limit the worst impacts of climate change.

“Saint-Gobain designs, produces and distributes solutions that contribute themselves to the reduction of CO2 emissions, including thermal insulation solutions that promote energy efficiency” explained Pierre-André de Chalendar, Chairman and CEO. “Within only three months, thanks to energy savings, our insulation solutions compensate the CO2 emissions linked to their production. The group is already making a significant contribution to improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions on its construction, mobility and industry markets” he continued. “ Within this commitment, Saint-Gobain goes one step further to reduce its own impact. The 2050 vision is critical to drive our medium and long-term investment policy, as well as industrial roadmaps, R&D programmes or product development strategy.”

Saint-Gobain is already committed to reducing its CO2 emissions by 20% between 2010 and 2025. Various programmes and tools have also already been implemented in order to support this target, including an internal price of carbon, one for investments and one for R&D projects, to drive business decisions towards low carbon solutions.
