Sustainability committee to enhance CSR functions at Japanese glassmaker

The recently announced AGC Sustainability Committee will enhance the functions of the current CSR Committee chaired by the Group CEO.

The AGC Group established its CSR Committee in 2005 to formulate policies for CSR and sustainability initiatives,

including those for the environment and society and to address various issues.

In January 2018, the SDGs Division was established within AGC’s Corporate Planning General Division to further strengthen the group’s initiatives in sustainability management, as well as to enhance the group’s information disclosure through the AGC integrated report.

To accelerate these efforts, in the next mid-term management plan which starts in 2021, AGC plans to introduce sustainability targets (non-financial targets) for creating social value, a priority for the group. Sustainability targets are set in a wide range of areas where the AGC Group can demonstrate its strengths and serve as the cornerstone for further promoting sustainability management that reconciles sustainable development of the Earth and society with the sustainable growth of the group.

In pursuing sustainability management from a long-term perspective, the recently established Sustainability Committee will, under the supervision of the Board of Directors, act as the decision-making body for sustainability initiatives, determine relevant policies, manage the progress of sustainability targets and deliberate policies. At the same time, the name of the SDGs Division will be changed to the Sustainability Division.

And as the secretariat of this Committee, it will lead the formulation and implementation of sustainability management strategies for the entire group.
