Safety glass laminating with easy-LAM IFL gains certification

Safety glass laminating with easy-LAM IFL gains certification

The 2018 launch of the easy-LAM IFL for inline lamination of flat glass was a significant milestone in the history of BÜRKLE.

The newly developed technology enables flat and laminated safety glass manufacturers to replace the cost- and energy-intensive autoclave in their production with a highly efficient lamination process.

The three-stage laminating concept, which consists of a heating, vacuum and cold press and can be fully integrated into new or existing production lines, is decisive for the savings.

After successful installation of the test system of the "IFL-Process" in the BÜRKLE Technology Center, development and test trials with partners and interested parties can now be carried out at the Freudenstadt site.

Clinical Supply Program for Gx RTF vials

Clinical Supply Program for Gx RTF vials

The successes in the fight against Covid-19 have brought biopharmaceutics into the spotlight. The sector has been a pioneer in new technologies for years.

As part of its primary packaging business for glass containers, Gerresheimer offers a wide range of products and services for the mostly parenteral administration of these medications.

For prefillable vials and syringes in particular, Gerresheimer keeps a sample stock from which smaller quantities, which are frequently used in early phases of development, can be called up at any time.

Serious doubts on the impact of UK Deposit Return Scheme proposals

Serious doubts on the impact of UK Deposit Return Scheme proposals

British Glass has responded to the UK Government’s consultation which closed Friday 4 June raising fears that the proposed Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) will have a detrimental impact on closed loop glass recycling, increase carbon emissions and incentivise an increase in plastic consumption at the expense of glass.

In its consultation response, British Glass explained that the industry is committed to a 90% collected for recycling rate and for the first time announced a commitment to an 80% remelt target by 2030 which would see 80% of all glass recycled back into new bottles and jars as part of a closed loop.

Nigerian container furnace heat-up

Nigerian container furnace heat-up

HORN started the furnace heat-up process at glass packaging supplier Frigoglass' 300 t/d end fired furnace GF2 in Nigeria. Heat-up started on 21 May, with the first glass is expected on 2 June.

The new container glass furnace manufactures glass in green and amber. HORN technicians are present to support the heat-up and establishment of glass making.

The project will be finished by mid of June 2021.

Frigoglass under Manufacturing Director Mr Jagdish Agarwal and the management team provided grateful support in the rapid execution of this project despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

AGC coater for the world’s largest telescope

AGC coater for the world’s largest telescope

The European Southern Observatory (ESO) and AGC Glass Europe, with its business unit AGC Plasma Technology Solutions, have signed a second contract to deliver a coater specially equipped for the large mirrors (M2, M3, M4 and M5) of the world’s largest telescope.

In 2018 AGC was initially selected to assemble and install the two magnetron sputtering coaters for the 39m primary mirror segments of the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT).

The third coater is for the additional 4m wide mirrors.

The coaters are important to maintain the performance of the telescope optics. It is necessary to have these on site for ESO to be able to re-coat the mirror segments regularly with a protected silver layer stack.
