Encirc Achieves Gold Level in Business and Biodiversity Charter

Encirc’s factory in Cheshire has achieved Gold Level in the Business and Biodiversity Charter awards presented by Business In The Community. The award serves as a recognition of the site’s ‘commitment to responsible business practices that improve biodiversity conservation’. It is one of the few sites in England to have achieved the accolade, which is not typically awarded outside of Northern Ireland.

To achieve the award Encirc had to demonstrate its action plan to address and improve its impacts on biodiversity in the Cheshire region, including the impact on wildlife.

Paul Coulson to Transition From Chairman to Director Role

Ardagh Group has announces a decision by Paul Coulson to step down as Chairman on 15 November 2023. Mr Coulson will be succeeded by Herman Troskie who currently serves as a director of Ardagh Group, Ardagh Metal Packaging and ARD Holdings, the ultimate parent of Ardagh Group. This transition is the culmination of a succession process that, in recent years, has seen the appointments of Oliver Graham as CEO of Ardagh Metal Packaging, and Michael Dick as CEO of Ardagh Glass Packaging.

Energy Efficient Furnace at Guardian Glass Bascharage to Restart

New innovative, energy efficient furnace at Guardian Glass Bascharage plant on schedule to restart in Q4 2023 (Photo Guardian Glass).

Following a successful cold tank repair, the new furnace at the Guardian Glass Bascharage, Luxembourg plant is on schedule to be operational in Q4 2023. The innovative furnace marks an exciting new era, as it will be the most energy efficient Guardian Glass furnace. Once put into operation, the furnace is expected to be ~25% more energy efficient.

The furnace will also provide extra capacity for the plant to be able to produce both Guardian ExtraClear™ float glass and Guardian UltraClear™ low-iron float glass. The Bascharage plant already hosts a coater that produces Guardian ClimaGuard™ low-emissivity (low-E) and Guardian SunGuard™ high performance coated solar control glass for residential and commercial applications.

Murano: Upcycling Glass comes alive.

About 40 works created by 15 master glassmakers from the island of Murano with only recycled glass donated by Consorzio Promovetro Murano and a single goal: to raise public awareness on the issues of glass recycling, the more conscious use of raw materials and sustainability in a completely new way.

The exhibition promoted by the Consorzio Promovetro Murano and curated by Matteo Silverio, Murano: Upcycling Glass is part of Venice Glass Week. All the works are born from a challenge given to the master glassmakers of the island, who used to working with a completely different glass, which has combined, for the first time, the tradition of glass techniques with the secondary material with surprising and original results.

Knauf Insulation is launching company-wide sustainable building standards for its new sites following the certification of its Illange plant offices in France by the independent Green Building System Haute Qualité Environnementale (HQE).

Philippe Coune, Knauf Insulation Western Europe’s Sustainability Manager, said the certification underlined Knauf Insulation’s sustainability strategy commitment to Create Better Buildings: “Knauf Insulation's raison d'être is making buildings more sustainable by reducing energy use and greenhouse gases as well as creating buildings that enhance well-being and comfort."

AGC’s Light Control Glass Adopted for Toyota’s “Century”

AGC Digital Curtain light control glass has been adopted for Toyota’s Century model. Using the glass in the rear seats allows for instantaneous control of light transmission and visibility, thus contributing to a spacious and comfortable cabin interior. This is the first time in the world for light control glass to be adopted for car door sections.

Stoelzle Glass Group Sustainability Report Commits To Decarbonisation

Stoelzle sustainable business performance goals.

Stoelzle Glass Group’s decarbonisation targets were submitted to Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) and have now been officially accepted. The company commits to ambitious goals, including a 50% reduction in absolute greenhouse gas emissions (scope 1 and 2) by 2030 and a 15% reduction in absolute scope 3 emissions from a 2019 base year.
