New Stoelzle CEO Dr. August Grupp has been a part of Stoelzle’s leadership since 2019.

Stoelzle Glass Group has announced a significant leadership transition, a generational shift as Mr Georg Feith passes the role of CEO to Dr. August Grupp. This appointment signifies the owner-family's next generation assuming leadership. Mr Feith will transition, after a successful five-year tenure as CEO, to a new leadership role within CAG Holding, of which Stoelzle is a part.

Axpo and Pilkington Automotive Sign PPA for Finnish Sites

Axpo and Pilkington Automotive Finland have signed a long-term wind energy power purchase agreement (PPA). The partnership is a significant step towards powering NSG Group's plants in Finland with clean electricity and further demonstrates the commitment of both companies to sustainability.

Axpo will supply Pilkington Automotive Finland's two manufacturing plants with an annual total of 35GWh of wind-generated electricity from the Storbacken wind farm, located near the city of Vöyri in Finland, for eight years. This significant infusion of renewable electricity underscores NSG Group's unwavering commitment to reducing the company's carbon footprint and embracing sustainability in its operations.

Circularity in the European Glass Fibre Manufacturing

Glass Fibre Europe is confident the industry can become circular and sustainable.

The European glass fibre industry has announced the adoption of a groundbreaking position: “Circularity in the European Continuous Filament Glass Fibre Manufacturing”. This underscores the industry’s dedication to significantly reduce waste generation within its facilities, as well as the ultimate goal of ensuring that no internal glass waste ends up in landfill.

Glass Fibre Europe’s member organisations are working towards the identification and implementation of innovative solutions, closely aligned with the European Union Waste Framework Directive. These measures, designed to prevent losses, promote reuse and facilitate recycling have already seen the share of glass waste sent to landfill reduce from 11% to 6.9% of the glass fibre output in the last ten years.

Femtosecond Laser Using a Glass Substrate

Yves Bellouard’s Galatea laboratory at EPFL is at the crossroads between optics, mechanics and materials science, and femtosecond lasers is a crucial element of this work. Femtosecond lasers produce extremely short and regular bursts of laser light and have many applications such as laser eye surgery, nonlinear microscopy, spectroscopy, laser material processing and sustainable data storage.

O-I has become the first glass manufacturer to produce decorated glass bottles using variable data printing. O-I : Expressions Signature provides a more complex level of personalisation than ever on glass packaging.

The range offers brand owners the opportunity to choose from several variations during the same print run including:

Changing a graphic on the bottle

Changing the colours within the graphic design

Changing a name or a word on the bottle

Using different customized tactile digitally printed effects with O-I : Expressions Relief

Ardagh Group Facility Awarded Its Eighth Consecutive Energy Star

Ardagh Group’s Fairfield facility retains Energy Star building certification for the eighth year.

Ardagh Group's distribution centre in Fairfield, California, was awarded an Energy Star building certification from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the eighth consecutive year. Fairfield primarily serves the company’s packaging distribution needs on the West Coast to better service the wine industry.

Ardagh Group’s commitment to the environment goes beyond producing infinitely recyclable glass containers; we’re dedicated to protecting the communities in which we live and work, by saving energy and reducing our environmental impact,” said Alex Winters, Chief Sustainability Officer at Ardagh Glass Packaging. “Initiatives like the Energy Star certification demonstrate Ardagh’s aim to be an environmental leader in the packaging industry.”

AFGM’s ASEAN Glass Conference underway

With Glass Worldwide as official journal, the 45th ASEAN Glass Conference is underway in Nha Trang, hosted by the Vietnam Glass Association (Vieglass).

Following a golf tournament and cocktail reception, Harris Hendraka (AFGM Chairman), Nguyễn Huy Thắng (Organising Committee Chairman and Vice Chairman/Secretary General of Vieglass) and Vu Thi Hoai Thu (keynote speaker from the National Economics University) addressed over 300 delegates from 26 countries at a grand welcome ceremony.
