Recresco increases waste management capabilities with metal sorting technology

Recresco increases waste management capabilities with metal sorting technology

Leading UK glass recycling company Recresco has made a significant investment into metal sorting technology at its Ellesmere Port site. The project will see shredders, X-ray fluorescence technology and briquetting machinery installed and operational by the end of September to efficiently sort, shred and compress the aluminium bottle tops from co-mingled glass collections for smelting.

Glass collections often see aluminium caps still attached to containers with rubber, cork or plastic seals still in place. Recresco sees around 20 tonnes of metal lids move through its Ellesmere Port plant every week. Once caps are removed from glass bottles, innovative Redwave machinery removes other metals and a press forms smelter ready briquettes.

Kombucha Brand Opts for Beatson Clark’s Alpha Drinks Bottle

Growing drinks brand KTea has switched its bottle supplier and chosen Beatson Clark’s new amber drinks bottle for its kombucha fermented tea.

The Guernsey-based artisan drinks manufacturer is now using Beatson Clark’s new 330ml amber Alpha drinks bottle with an MCA neck finish as it looks to increase capacity and grow sales.

Kombucha is a fermented tea drink which originated in China around 2,000 years ago when it was known as The Tea of immortality. Now it is so fashionable that around 1,000 pubs in Britain sell it.

As kombucha is full of healthy bacteria it encourages better digestion, relieves inflammation and can promote weight loss.

NSG Group’s carbon pledges certified as UK arm leads industry towards decarbonisation

New carbon pledges by international glass manufacturer NSG Group have been certified as science based, as its UK subsidiary Pilkington UK completes a string of world-first trials towards achieving decarbonisation.

The NSG Group will reduce its carbon emissions by 30% compared with 2018 levels, by 2030. It forms part of a wider plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, from emissions directly associated with its manufacturing to carbon produced in its supply chain.

The glass giant’s carbon pledge has been certified as science based by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), meaning it will effectively help to limit the average rise of global temperature to well below 2°C on pre-industrial revolution levels.
